Title: Deccan Chargers Triumph

Desc:

Deccan Chargers started the IPL Season 2 with a thumping eight-wicket victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders at Newlands.

RP Singh's first ball of the innings got Brendon McCullum caught by Adam Gilchrist for 1 run. The Knight Riders never seemed to be comfortable in their innings for the initial part. The first ten overs saw Kolkata hit just three boundaries and a six as they crawled to 31 for 3 before Pragyan Ojha compounded their woes further.

Fidel Edwards was making life difficult out in the middle for the top order batsmen.

Chris Gayle got Kolkata's first boundary and his first runs after facing 12 deliveries when he hit Singh through the off-side in the fourth over followed by a huge six over midwicket.

But Singh has his revenge off the very next delivery as Gayle tried a similar shot but got a leading edge which was caught by Harmeet Singh at long off for 10.

Australian Brad Hodge top-scored with 31 (4 boundaries) before Herschelle Gibbs  pulled of a brilliant catch at backward point off Scott Styris.

The Deccan Chargers batsmen never seemed to have any difficulties in thrashing the Knight Riders bowling attack. Ajit Agarkar went for 17 runs in 1 over when things were tightening up for Deccan Chargers. That broke the shackles.

Though the Deccan chargers lost the priced wickets of Adam Gilchrist & VVS Laxman, an unbeaten partnership of 69 runs between Herschelle Gibbs & Rohit Sharma brought them home. Gibbs scored 43 runs from 26 deliveries. while Sharma was not out for 36 runs from 32 balls.

Deccan chargers finished in the bottom half last season. If they are able to deliver performance like this one, then they can't be ruled out this season.

The final score: Deccan scored 104 for 2 in 13.2 overs to win by eight wickets.
