Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to bat first against Bangalore Royal Challengers in the eighth match of the IPL season two being played at Newlands.
The pitch looks to be a sub continental type of wicket. It looks to be a great batting wicket. The weather looks good with a bit of cloud cover.
This will be the fifth match played at Newlands, and the ground remains a delight for players and spectators alike - provided the rains don`t come down. The overcast conditions that have prevailed in South Africa have helped bowlers emerge from their role in the previous IPL, which was roughly that of a mechanized bowling machine, and Newlands has been no exception.
Then Kevin Pietersen was lapped up by Bangalore Royal Challenger owner Vijay Mallya by a whopping price, he looked KP as someone who would act as a saviour for his depleted team. But KP has been a disappointment if we go by the initial phase of the IPL season two. Today, he also failed to come good with the bat scoring only 11.
Robin Uthappa’s poor form continued as he again failed with the bat trying to hit over the park for just 12. Ravi Teja took a blinder at mid-wicket boundary off the bowling of Scott Styris. Rahul Dravid joined in the middle to give company to his captain Kevin Pietersen. Challengers were 52 for 3 after 9 overs.
Bangalore Royal Challengers` batting woe continued as they lost their second wicket in Jacques Kallis with scoreboard barely crossed 15. R P Singh came to the party as he induced a false short from Kallis who was caught by Rohit Sharma at cover. Kallis, who made a good star with three lovely fours, scored 15 off 14 balls.
Fidel Edwards has given Deccan Chargers a sensational start with the ball as he removed dangerous Jesse Ryder with a perfect yorker that dislodged his stumps. Ryder’s bad form in IPL continued as he was again out for a duck.
Adam Gilchrist’s blistering 71 and Rohit Sharma’s classy yet attacking 52 helped Deccan Chargers post a mammoth 184/6 in allotted 20 overs, the highest
