Chasing a modest total of 159 runs for victory, KKR were off to flying start led by Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum. However KKR’s march was halted when rain disrupted the proceedings in Kingsmead as Kolkata scored 79/1 in 9.2 overs. Kolkata eventually were declared winner by 11 runs courtesy Duckworth Lewis rule.

The must win match for both the teams saw Kings XI Punjab fall again on the wrong side of the Duckworth Lewis method. An eleven run defeat ensured that Punjab lie at the bottom of the points table after two straight defeats.

Ravinder Bopara (15) was Ganguly’s second victim.

It was Sourav Ganguly’s show in the first session as his twin strikes jolted Kings XI Punjab early on after Brendon McCullum won the toss for KKR and decided to field first. Yuvraj Singh and Kumara Sangakkara took Punjab’s total to 67/3 when rain came pouring down during the mandatory strategy break after the tenth over during Kings XI Punjab’s innings.

Sangakkara scored 26 of 24 balls he faced. Yuvraj Singh on other hand kept the scorecard ticking as he was joined by Mahela Jayawardene at the crease. Captain of Kings XI was then holed in the deep mid wicket by Yashpal Singh of Henriques while trying to clear the fence. Yuvraj scored 38 off 28 balls he faced and twice cleared the fence, much to the delight of
