Andrew Symonds was once again the star performer for Deccan Chargers as they beat Delhi Daredevils by 10 runs in the Indian Premier League at the Barabati stadium, in Cuttack, on Sunday. Symonds took three wickets for 21 runs in his four overs, including two in his final over, to follow up on the brisk 35 from 24 balls he put up with the bat.
Replying to Deccan's 171 for six, Delhi finished with 161 for nine in their 20 overs. David Warner had given Delhi a blazing start, scoring 57 from 33 balls, inclusive of four boundaries and four sixes, before he was run out. Captain Dinesh Karthik brought his team close to vicory, as he hit 46 from 27 balls, but his dismissal, to Symonds, saw Deccan seal the match. Chaminda Vaas was again superb with the ball as he took one for 21 in four overs. Earlier, Rohit Sharma blasted a quick 45 to help Deccan Chargers post a healthy total. Sharma hit three boundaries and three sixes in his 30-ball knock to lift the scoring rate in the final overs before he was caught by AB de Villiers off Dirk Nannes. Symonds scored 35 from 24 balls, laced with three boundaries and two sixes, and Herschelle Gibbs stroked a brisk 31 from 16 balls. With this victory, champions Deccan jumped to second in the standings, with six points from four games. Delhi stay in sixth place, having lost their last three matches, with four points from five games.
