Although classified as an all-rounder who can bowl tidy medium pace too, it would be fair to say Justin Kemp is perhaps most dangerous when armed with the bat. The 32-year-old is one of the cleanest strikers of the cricket ball, can demolish attacks with utmost ease and change the course of the match in the span of a few minutes. With the ball in hand, he can play the role of a stock bowler, bowl tidy lines and lengths and keep things tight.
Kemp made his international debut for South Africa as a 23-year old, but didn't quite deliver to his potential; his role in the team wasn't quite clear - despite his reputation as a very dangerous batsman, he didn't get too many opportunities to bat early on in his career, and was utilised more as a bowler.
After stints outside of representative cricket, when it became evident that there weren't going to be too many comeback opportunities to the national team, Kemp took the Kolpak route to play professional cricket in England. An integral part of the English county side Kent, the former South African all-rounder was signed up by the Chennai Super Kings for $100,000 at the IPL Auction 2010.
