All through the first edition of the IPL, they were involved in an embarrassing battle to avoid bottom spot. This evening, Bangalore Royal Challengers and Deccan Chargers take on each other for the big prize.

The Chargers, who had won just two games in 14 in their first attempt, had booked their place in the title clash by beating Delhi, the form team of the tournament, on Friday night. On Saturday, Bangalore, who won three matches out of 14 last year, sealed their place in Sunday's final with a six-wicket victory over last year's runners-up Chennai Super Kings Gilchrist was made captain this year and all the luck changed.Deccan chargers may not have even dreamt of being in the finals taking consideration of their performance last year.

Manish Pandey, this time scored a 35-ball 48 in a tricky chase of 147. "Today's youngsters play without fear," captain Anil Kumble said about Pandey's knock. "Our bowlers did a terrific job. Their total of 146 wasn't even a par score on this ground." Coach Ray Jennings was asked if he was surprised.

The two teams have taken different routes to the knock-out rounds. The Chargers made hardly any changes to their squad and got off the blocks in style, with four comprehensive wins on the trot. They lost their way in the middle of the tournament, but managed to pick up points when it mattered most.
